Hello World!

Read the devotional (7 Oct 2009) from my favourite site, The Word For Today.
http://www.thewordfortoday.com.au/

It’s amazing how many times it speaks very personally to me…
Today, something in the Scripture text just jumped out!

Let me reproduce the devotional here so you don’t have to go look for it.

Wed 7 Oct 09
Don’t keep your love in a box!
‘She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.’ Mark 14:3 NIV

Mark records: ‘A woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume… She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.
Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, ‘Why this waste of perfume?
It could have been sold… and the money given to the poor.’ And they rebuked her harshly.

“‘Leave her alone,’ said Jesus…’ She has done a beautiful thing … The poor you will always have with you…
But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.
I tell you… wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” (Mark 14:3-9 NIV)

Joseph of Arimathea brought a hundred pounds of ointment to embalm Jesus after He was dead,
and not a word of praise is spoken about it in Scripture.
This woman brought one pound of ointment and poured it on Him while He was still living, and Jesus pointed out two things:
a) ‘She did what she could.’ Acts of kindness are usually not about doing great things, but about doing small things with great love
b) ‘What she has done will also be told, in memory of her.’

What will you be remembered for, a life of service or self-centredness?
If you think good things about someone, tell them. Go out of your way to fill their lives with joy while there’s still time.
Those expressions of appreciation, those words of forgiveness, that special gift you’ve had in mind, give it while you can.
Don’t keep your love in a box!

So… did you see it?
I’m sure I read this passage many times before but never quite noted the little phrase nestled in Jesus’ statement… because it wasn’t the main point he was making. But how important that phrase is!

Jesus says it with surety… that “the gospel is preached throughout the world”!!

What an assurance to know it from Jesus’ own mouth, that we are on the “right track” where the gospel is concerned.

Hello World… come hear the good news, it’s intended for you!

IED@SG 2009

Welcome to IED@SG 2009!
Internet Evangelism Day (IED) is an international online movement that aims to activate churches and Christians about:

- What God is doing on the Web
- Outreach strategies that work online
- How you, your church or Christian group can use the Web for outreach
– How to make effective church websites reach into the community
- Planning an Internet Evangelism focus day for your church, Bible college or Christian group

IED@SG - Engaging Our Digital World
Here in Singapore we resonate with the need to raise awareness about the need and opportunities for extending Christian witness and ministry in new media spaces. In tandem with the IED we aim to:

- Create awareness & vision for online witness
- Share local tools and avenues for personal action
- Connect and encourage local believers/organizations active in this space

IED 2009 is officially on Sunday 26 April. For IED@SG, we've planned a series of exciting activities for the entire week of the 26th itself, so come join the fun and get your church group participating too!

Blessings,
IED@SG 2009 Team

Day One: Blogging Carnival
The theme, Easter & Me, is an opportunity to share faith online as part of your regular blogging. Link up with a broader Christian blogging community to bring that message further and wider. The truth is when all of us combine our little stories about God's love and faithfulness, or how Jesus's sacrifice and resurrection impacts us, or present the story of Easter through our unique life perspectives, we as a church begin to reflect a more complete picture of our God of Love.

Destiny - Reloaded!

I've not been back to my blog for almost 2 years!
The last post was on my church camp in 2007... and this year from 3-6 June 2009, we are having the same camp theme (thus... "reloaded") and speaker! Good to look back on the sessions below and see how far I've (we've) come!

Leng Kwang Baptist Church Camp 11-15 June 2007

The 5 Theme Talks were:

1) The Purposes of God to Live For
– Spirit-filled (character) versus Spirit-gifted (competence)

2) The Presence of God to Live In
– Encountering God and dying to Self.

3) The People of God to Live With
– The Church characterized by Community, based on Charity, forged by Humilty.

4) The Priorities of God to Live Out
– We never forget the person who brought the Gospel to us. Preach the Good News.

5) The Power of God to Live On
– “There are no professionals in the Kingdom of God.” No matter how long you have been a Christian. What is important is finishing well and fulfilling God’s destiny.

Pastor Jimmy also shared his heart in a session of Envisioning.
It was a "Reality Check". He urges us to be "Crossing the Lines" in:

1) Personal Faith Barriers – Growing in our Relationship with God.
2) Commitment to One Another - Connected to Community
3) Service to God in the Local Church
4) Sharing Our Faith

We also received some articles to read, on “Courage & Calling” by Gordon T. Smith.
Here are some quotes that I found meaningful:

To live in truth, we must be true to who we are.
If we seek to be anything other than who we are, we live a lie.
Who we are and who we are called to be in the world is found at the intersection of all four (answers to the following questions).

Q1: What are my gifts and abilities?
Q2: What is the deepest desire of my heart?
Q3: Where do I personally sense the needs of the world and feel the brokenness in God’s creation?
Q4: What is my unique personality or temperament?
